for the first time in longer than either of us can remember, adam and i found oursleves with a day - an entire day - to ourselves. well, really it was 10 hours, but it felt like a lifetime. adam was off due to cesar chavez day, and olivia joined her sister at 'school' for the first time. since these days come so infrequently (never), we savored every precious second. the weather was beautiful, and so we decided to spend the afternoon playing a favorite pastime of adam's and a new hobby of mine.
as some of you know, learning to play golf is a promise i've made to myself this year. adam bought me these new clubs for christmas. and i must say, even in carolina blue, they are pretty darn cute (yes, ad, i called them cute. again. : )
the course itself was not in the best shape (i'm told) but it was beautiful all the same. I didn't realize just how quiet it is out there. how in the midst of nature you are. it felt like we were the only ones on the whole course. i suppose i've become accustomed to watching tournaments on television where tiger walks up the fairway flanked by crowds of people, and the greens are outfitted with screaming fans in the stands. huh. there was none of that. just beautiful valley oaks and sunlight, and us.
so i'm including this photo for one reason. no, not because its a pretty good shot from behind for a girl who just gave birth 3 months ago : ). and nope, not because that little white glove on my left hand and the way i'm using the club to balance as i place my ball on the tee makes it appear as though i know what the hell i'm doing (i don't). i had to put it up here because it is the only photo that shows off those adorable new nike golf shoes i bought just that day.
they are a little hard to see in the photo - but its the best shot i've got. they are white with reddish/pink reverse stitching and bottoms. nike doesn't make the best golf shoes (i'm told), but they certainly make the cutest ones. all the others at the store looked like old men's shoes. trying them on, i felt like i should be smoking a cigar and wearing a wool houndstooth hat. anyway, i'm not good enough to know the difference. they didn't hurt my feet and were pretty darn cute. so fashion over function for me : )
